About Asociatia Lumina - Hospice Casa Albert Bacau, Romania The vision of the community palliative care team at Hospice Casa Albert is to provide holistic care (medical, social, emotional and spiritual) to children and young adults, for whom a medical curable treatment is no longer efficient and the prognosis is limited. Palliative care offers emotional, social and spiritual support and a breathing time for the family. This care will be offered with professionalism, compassion, respect and without discrimination. The vision of the Casa Albert project extended, including support for families, through education, advice and medical assistance, through “respite” assistance. The Albert Day Centre is open to the beneficiaries of our community palliative care services with the purpose of raising their social, recreation personal autonomy skills and, at the same time, by offering their families breathing space. Our vision also includes the desire to attract volunteers from the local community to offer financial support and to dedicate time for our projects. The hospice staff also intends to influence local practices, by promoting the palliative care principles among professionals in the medical area or for regular people.

The Association “Porque Viven” (Because they live) is a non-governmental organisation working within Spain in the promotion and development of Paediatric Palliative Care, founded in 2009. It was initially founded to support the work of the Paediatric Palliative Care Unit of the infant hospital Niño Jesús (baby Jesus). Paediatric palliative care patients suffer from incurable diseases and are often nearing the end of their lives. Palliative care is a way to provide people-centred assistance: for the children, their families and the professionals who care for them. The Association “Porque Viven” helps to support and provide integral care to both children and their families. Our purpose is for paediatric palliative care patients to live lives as full as possible until the end of their days.
