Help Senior Citizen (HSC) was launched as a community based organization in 2007 in Mongu with Register of Societies in Zambia ORS/102/35/2220, western provice.It was founded as an initiative of Youth and Old people living with HIV/AIDS, but open to persons interested in addressing the legal, ethical, Income generation activities and human rights issues of HIV/AIDS. The organization underwent an incubation period during which its membership realized that the challenge facing Young and old people living with HIV/AIDS in as far as their rights are concerned was large in rural/remote communities, there was nothing being done about the abuses they face. As such the organization embarked on establishing Membership, partnerships and identifying the priority areas that demanded immediate attention. As a community based organization’s objectives are to conduct advocacy research and provide accurate information into the legal issues of HIV/AIDS, IGAs, carryout advocacy for the rights of young and old people living with HIV/AIDS, lobby government to pass legislation that will ensure the rights of young and old people living with HIV/AIDS are protected, solicit government to implement international guidelines on HIV/AIDS and human rights. Currently the membership of the organization largely consists of young and old people, most of who are living in rural/remote communities. Through these and other activities the organization is equipping itself to address the legal, ethical, income generating activities and human rights challenges that HIV/AIDS is not rights based, as long as inequalities continue to exist,vulnerablility to the pandemic will continue to escalate and interventions will be ineffectual. On the other hand when the rights of the infected and affected communities are taken into account, ownership, and accountability and transparent will characterize the response. By this approach the organization will be spreading a message of hope and stand up side by side with the afflicted and affected.
