Tearfund is a UK-based Christian relief and development charity, working alongside local churches in tackling poverty and seeking justice. Tearfund’s ten year vision is to see 50 million people released from spiritual and material poverty through a worldwide network of 100,000 local churches. At its headquarters in south-West London 300 employees manage partner programs in 40 of the poorest countries around the world, and operational programs in some countries, currently Afghanistan, RDC, North and South Sudan. Tearfund’s preferred model of work is through church and community mobilization in which churches and communities develop their own responses to the challenges that they face, drawing on Tearfund’s support. Priority areas include reducing vulnerability to HIV/AIDS, health and nutrition, water and sanitation and developing advocacy.

ThembaCare Athlone Hospice Palliative Care centre, a paediatric eighteen bed IPU, with HBC division. Close to three large hospitals, one being the Red Cross Children's Hospital.

It opened in 2002 to alleviate the burden of HIV babies and children dying on wards. Today we look after and monitor over 250 of our discharged little clients in the community thanks to ARV's.
