ICPCN will focus on four key aims in 2008:
- Networking
- Information sharing
- Advocacy
- Research and education
The specific objectives that will be achieved are:
1. Networking
To establish a global children’s palliative care network.
- To develop a democratic structure so as to clarify how the ICPCN network will function at all levels, including in relation to external organisations.
- To develop an online network and forum to facilitate information and good practice sharing.
2. Information
To enable the collation and dissemination of information in accessible and appropriate formats and languages.
- To develop a high quality website including international directory.
- To develop an electronic newsletter.
- To provide information about new developments, events and news in all countries.
3. Advocacy
To provide a global voice for children’s hospice and palliative care.
- To undertake international awareness raising of children’s hospice and palliative care.
- To identify the gaps in children’s palliative care development.
- To support the development of lobbying and advocacy at a national level.
- To address the mainstreaming of children’s palliative care within relevant international arenas.
- To produce an international advocacy toolkit.
4. Research and education
To disseminate and expand where appropriate the evidence-base and educational opportunities for children’s hospice and palliative care at an international level.
- To establish a global research and education working group.
- To disseminate existing research via the ACT international journal of children’s palliative care, PaedPalLit.
- To establish an ICPCN international conference.
